King Eider Watchful

A grandly decorated King Eider watches over his mate in the wee early morning hours on the north slope tundra near the Bering Sea.  King Eiders are pelagic birds who are most comfortable on the ocean but this time of year they flock to the arctic tundra by the thousands to find mates and the females feed voraciously in preparation for the long stay on land.  The males are superbly dandy in their breeding plumage and wear the badge of King Eider with distinction while the females are camouflaged for nesting.  Edition of 500.
