Fine Art Nature Photograph of early Trumpeter Swans engaged in battle on a small open pool of water in interior Alaska. Late cold temps have stalled the thaw and caused in fighting. A dispute breaks out among the early arrivals as tensions rise. |
The raw power of this image is what makes it so attractive to me. The open water in early spring was at a premium due to late spring temperatures dropping back below freezing after initially thawing. With so many Trumpeter Swans on the water tensions were very high as the spring brought out the urge to begin establishing territories among the swan pairs. Normally very peaceful and serene birds these trumpeter swans' aggression erupted as the morning grew later and the pool continued to fill up with newcomers. After several fierce battles several swan pairs departed and the remainder set in to feeding and preening. Edition of 500.
