Emperor geese were almost hunted to extinction. Protection and conservation efforts have provided for what counts as a recovery but the population is still tenuous with mysterious periods of decline. A beautiful goose that can be found in significant numbers on the Archipelago of Alaska the emperor goose reins supreme in Izembek National Wildlife Refuge.
