Trumpeter Swans arrive early in Alaska and the late spring melt off can make open water a premium. This swan found some quiet time in the soft early morning spring light to preen it's feathers. The ice is still very thick along the edges of Spring Creek and the ground is still covered in snow but the swans don't mind. Alaska is the Trumpeter Swans breeding grounds and through winter I anxiously await their arrival as I enjoy them so much and the event marks spring for me. Edition of 500.
